Biraban LALC offer a variety of Aboriginal Cultural Education & Training packages delivered by local Aboriginal knowledge holders and include:
Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training
A local Aboriginal knowledge holder will provide the training aimed at expanding a person's knowledge and understanding of local Aboriginal people, their history and current issues; building their understanding of cultural appropriateness and cultural protocols.
Aboriginal Cultural and Heritage Sites Identification Training
A local Aboriginal knowledge holder will introduce participants to local Aboriginal cultural and heritage sites, objects and cultural landscapes, expanding their knowledge and understanding of the traditional occupation of Australia pre-settlement; the protection and conservation of ACH post-contact and current relevant legislation.
Bush Tucker & Bush Medicine
A local Aboriginal knowledge holder will provide people with basic knowledge and understanding of the traditional uses of local flora and fauna within the region and provide them with the ability and skills to identify local bush tucker and bush medicine plants and their uses.
A local Aboriginal knowledge holder will teach the basics of Aboriginal Dance, its significance to Aboriginal culture and heritage, its use as a universal language and as a means to record history and the Dreaming and to pass on knowledge to the younger generations.
A local Aboriginal Knowledge holder will demonstrate the different styles of Aboriginal Art, its importance to Aboriginal culture and its significance as a means to record history, lore and the Dreaming.
A local Aboriginal knowledge holder will explain the different uses of weaving, different styles and techniques whilst providing participants with the ability and skills to identify appropriate plants, prepare and weave with the material.
